From Science to Clinical Application

Certified Light Therapy Specialist (CLTS)

Stop guessing where to place light.
Start understanding the body.

You've learned The Science of Light Therapy. Now it's time to build the practical framework for applying that knowledge.

When working with real clients, you may have wondered:

  • I understand the basics, but I'm not confident in my placement.
  • Why might one client respond differently than another?
  • Am I applying what I know—or simply guessing?

If you've ever felt uncertain about how to translate the science into practical application, you're not alone.

Many practitioners learn what light therapy is without learning how to systematically think through application.

You're not missing more tools. You're building a framework.

👉 You’re not missing more tools—you're building a framework.

Learn to Think the Light Way

This course introduces a framework for moving beyond memorized placement and toward a more thoughtful approach to light therapy application.

Instead of asking:
“Where do I put the light?”

You’ll begin asking:
“What am I observing, and how can I use what I know about the body to guide my application?”

Through an anatomy, nervous system, and lymphatic lens, you’ll learn how to:
  • Read the body before you apply light
  • Consider regulation and the body's response
  • Use light as an intentional signal—not simply a placement technique
  • Connect anatomy and physiology to your application decisions

This Is The Missing Link

The Certified Light Therapy Specialist (CLTS) course bridges the gap between:

  • Knowledge and application
  • Technique and clinical reasoning
  • Using light—and understanding the body

This is where you move beyond memorizing protocols and begin to develop a more intentional approach to application.

You’ll learn to:

  • Observe patterns before applying light
  • Recognize signs of nervous system states and regulation
  • Connect anatomy and physiology to your application decisions
  • Apply light with greater intention and precision

Designed for Trained
Practitioners Ready for More

The Certified Light Therapy Specialist (CLTS) is an advanced certification for practitioners who are ready to:

  • Build confidence in real-world application
  • Move beyond guesswork and memorized protocols
  • Develop greater clinical awareness and presence
  • Work with the body rather than simply applying light to it
  • Connect anatomy, physiology, and light therapy principles to application

This Is Where Your Practice Changes

Light therapy is not just about technology. It’s about learning to observe, understand, and respond.

It's About:

Observing

Learning to notice patterns, posture, movement, and other information the body is communicating.

Timing

Understanding that when and how you apply light can be part of a thoughtful application strategy.

Rhythm

Recognizing that the body is dynamic and that your approach may need to adapt rather than follow a rigid protocol.

Understanding the Nervous System

Building a stronger understanding of regulation and how the nervous system relates to your approach to light therapy.

Learning to Apply Light This Way Changes How You Work

  • Your confidence grows as your understanding deepens
  • Your sessions become more intentional
  • Your application decisions become more informed
  • You develop a framework you can continue to build upon

Build the Foundation. The Advance Your Practice.

Before advancing to the Certified Light Therapy Specialist (CLTS) program, students must first complete The Science of Light Therapy course and earn the Certified Light Therapist (CLT) credential.

This foundational training establishes the scientific framework for understanding Photobiomodulation, including the mechanisms of light interaction, wavelength, dosing, and the principles behind light therapy.

CLT provides the foundation. CLTS builds upon it with advanced application, anatomy, physiology, and clinical reasoning.

    Anatomy & Physiology Prerequisite

Completion of a college-level Anatomy & Physiology course and examination is required for the CLTS program.

    Documentation may include:

    • A college transcript or course completion record
    • An Anatomy & Physiology certificate
    • A healthcare professional license number and state

Understand the Mechanism. Master the Modality.

This short visualization illustrates one of the foundational concepts behind light therapy: light interacts with tissue at different depths depending on wavelength and other application parameters.

Understanding these mechanisms is essential to moving beyond simply knowing how to use a device—and toward understanding how to apply light thoughtfully.

A Few More Words About This Course

The Certified Light Therapy Specialist (CLTS) program prepares trained practitioners to apply advanced Photobiomodulation (PBM) principles within professional practice, using the InLight Therapy System as the primary education model.

Students learn to observe patterns, consider nervous system and lymphatic relationships, select appropriate pad placements and controller settings, and develop thoughtful session strategies based on the individual and the application.

The program integrates cellular science, anatomy and physiology, nervous system and lymphatic principles, practitioner awareness, documentation, and professional compliance considerations into a practical framework for light therapy application.

    Why InLight

Throughout the course, the InLight Therapy System serves as the primary reference model because it provides a structured platform for teaching wavelength, frequency, pad placement, and application principles in a repeatable format.

Practitioners using other light therapy systems can apply the underlying principles and decision-making frameworks learned in the course, while recognizing that specific implementation will vary according to their device's capabilities, specifications, and settings.

    Who Is This Course For?

CLTS is designed for light therapists, nurses, chiropractors, and other qualified wellness professionals who have completed foundational light therapy education and are advancing their knowledge and professional credentials through the Board of Advanced Natural Health Sciences (BANHS).

The program is designed to help practitioners move from understanding the science of Photobiomodulation to developing a more informed, intentional approach to its application.

    Meet Your Instructors

The path to creating The Science of Light Therapy began not in a clinical setting, but in a barn—with a defining experience involving a severely injured horse and the calming effects observed with light therapy.

That experience sparked a deeper journey into the science of Photobiomodulation (PBM). Over the years, our work and education have expanded across human and animal applications, providing a unique cross-species perspective on the principles and possibilities of light therapy.

The Science of Light Therapy brings that experience together with a rigorous scientific foundation designed to help professionals build knowledge, understanding, and confidence in photobiomodulation.
